This is a wiring mod I came up with for a Strat style 3 pickup guitar. I combined features from a couple other wiring diagrams I have seen into one. I used two stacked potentiometers for a total of four controls. I made a YouTube video to demonstrate the different combinations you can get here.
The volume and tone controls operate as usual.
The series blend pot blends the middle pickup in series with either the neck or bridge pickup depending on the position of the 5 way switch. This gives a beefier humbucker type sound that you can adjust with the pot. When series blender is all the way on, position 1 is neck+middle in series, position 5 is bridge+middle in series, and positions 2-4 are middle pickup only.
The Parallel blend pot blends in either the neck or bridge pickup in parallel depending on the position of the 5 way switch. In position 1 you get the neck pickup and you can blend in the bridge pickup to taste with the pot. In position 2 you have neck and middle in parallel and you can again blend in the bridge pickup for all 3 pickups in parallel. Position 3 is unaffected. Position 4 is middle and bridge in parallel and you can blend in the neck in parallel for all three pickups in parallel again. Finally, position 5 is the bridge pickup and you can blend in the neck pickup to taste.
As you can see, this wiring offers a ton of different tonal possibilities. Again, check out the YouTube video to see what I mean.
